From people mistaking mannequins for corpses to someone inadvertently calling the police on themselves, the world seems to be full of oddities. A drinking mishap
One such incident took place in Turkey. Allegedly, a man accidentally joined his own search party after being reported missing. What started as a night of drinking transformed into an international tale of confusion and an unintentional self-rescue mission.
According to the Turkish news outlet NTV, 50-year-old Beyhan Mutlu had been out drinking with friends in the Bursa province. At some point during the night, he wandered into a nearby forest and failed to return. Worried for his safety, his wife and friends reached out to authorities to report him missing. Local police swiftly organized a search operation to scour the forested area.
Unaware that he was the person everyone was searching for, Mutlu stumbled upon the very group looking for him and chose to help out. He joined the volunteers and police, trekking through the forest for hours, calling out his own name, completely oblivious that he was the one they were trying to find.
Lost man identifies himself
The confusion ended suddenly when one of the searchers shouted, “Beyhan Mutlu!” and Mutlu replied immediately, “I am here.” At that moment, a rescuer took him aside to gather his information and figure out what was happening.
“Please don’t be too hard on me, officer. My father will k.i.l.l me,” Mutlu reportedly said, as per NTV.
While it’s uncertain if any formal action was taken against him, the police are said to have driven him home safely.
This story has since gone viral, capturing attention worldwide as yet another instance of real-life irony. Although it wasn’t the type of rescue the search team anticipated, everyone was ultimately relieved by the harmless conclusion.
